Kindness and Compassion to Dogs is the New SMEXY

I was hoping to post about our vet today, but decided to talk about other amazing people around Asia as well.

Two days ago, we went to our vet to have Buchi's semi-monthly Ivermectin shot. Just in case anybody was wondering, Ivermectin is a broad spectrum anti-parisitic drug. In Buchi's case, it keeps the itchies at bay because of his immuno-compromised body.

Off to the vet we go! Again!

So while I was talking to Dr. M about Buchi's regimen, she mentions how lucky Buchi is. If he had ended up with other owners, they would have probably left him to deal with the itchies and infection without medical attention. She didn't say much, but she made me feel like a special owner. This was far from what I had felt with Dr. C who made me feel stupid and ignorant. 

We've been going to this same clinic since 2009.

And it's not often you find a vet who understands that some of us are simply doing our best to provide the necessary medical attention with the limited budget we have. She's been generous and patient with us in many ways.

Bottom line? We think our vet, Dr. MSB, is definitely SMEXY!

Nitin Rana

We just found out about Nitin Rana in Facebook today. He has a thing for helping stray dogs and dogs in need in India.

Sure, I personally think he's cute, but the dogs think he's SMEXY.

Nowzad Shelter in Kabul

Nowzad does an amazing task of reuniting dogs and cats in Afghanistan to soldiers who have been destined there. According to NBC News, facilitating the reunion can cost as much as $4,000. They have organized more than 400 dog and cat transports to the United States and the United Kingdom.

In fact, their goodwill hasn't come unnoticed. They have been awarded BVNA Charity of the Year 2014, JustGiving charity of the Year 2013, and Animal Transportation Association Charity of the Year 2013

The shelter also takes in stray dogs, hoping to establish a healthy and controlled population through vaccination and spaying and neutering. One of their many intentions is to have of these cats and dogs adopted by Afghan families. Let's give them a paws up!

A Funny Dog Story: The Underwear Bandits

Breaking news! A number of underwear garments have gone missing ever since a group of settlers have invaded the MyDogsLove.Me pack habitat.

Translation: Our families and close relatives spent their vacation here because my sister and her husband we're about to get the house blessed. Some underwear garments have gone missing.

It was pandemonium! A chaos of of questions boggled the minds of these settlers. What have they done to have angered the gods?

Translation: They had no idea who the culprit was.

Wanted: Two Exposed Dogs Guilty of Stealing Underwear!

After fervently praying for some answers, a ray of light guided them to the truth they sought.

Translation: They caught two mischievous dogs lying comfortably on the clothes that came from the clothes line.

Dog News Friday: Trigger Happy Police Killing Innocent Dog

A few months ago, I posted about the Border Collie mix who was shot by a policeman after being mistaken for a Pitbull. ( Yeah, right! And Molly is the queen of England!).

Well, it doesn't stop here, folks! Recently another news pertaining to police brutality (and STUPIDITY, if you ask me) has emerged.

According to 9News, the dog named Chloe was tased, noosed and shot to death. The story began when a neighbor called 9-1-1 to report an unknown dog in the neighborhood. According to Kenny Collins, he did not expect something like this to happen as he just wanted the loose Chloe to be taken away. While they were trying to decide what to do with the dog, Chloe just sat there. But then, they tased her... and used a catch pole (which she tried to break loose from)... and got shot multiple times.

What made this story worst is that the cops had the audacity to justify their action by saying that they were attacked reason why they had to do what they did. Unfortunately for them, someone was filming what actually transpired that day.

Breaking Dog News: Shih Tzu Falls Two Stories High SURVIVES!

I was supposed to continue my dog news segment but then...something happened just awhile ago. You wouldn't believe it! I couldn't believe it myself either!!!

Last Wednesday, I had mentioned about The Climb. It's my poetic way of saying "I'm FREAKING OUT by their stairs adventure!"

Stairs to the Third Floor

Back to my stress-ridden news.... Remember when I mentioned Chooey's doggie stairs adventures? She loves playing with Rin on the third floor (like Whitey!). 

Long story short, Chooey was getting down these stairs when she SLIPS...TUMBLES... THUDS... FALLS from the SECOND FLOOR STAIRS...DOWN TO THE FIRST FLOOR STAIRS... and gives all of us a HEART ATTACK!

Our help was trembling and I was speechless trying to fathom what I was supposed to do in case anything bad happened. Images of the vet clinic and how my darling little shih tzu was fairing drove me crazy as I sped down the stairs! Nobody reacted bad which was a good sign. I asked the second help where Chooey was, she simply said "outside"-as if everything was fine. I opened the door and saw our first help carrying the wagging little dog back to the second floor.

I have leashed her for the night because of the fear that it may happen again.

"What the HELL Chooey," I wanted to scream; half-relieved, half-breathless. I heard a series of thuds and a tiny dog yelp but she was OKAY! The dog who fell from the second floor, tumbled and fell on two flights stairs, landed on the ground was left unscathed.

I am thankful that nothing happened to her... so much for Dog News Friday.

Dog News Friday: Dog Poisoning

Today is another segment of our Dog News Friday. I only have two news to share and it's all related to dog poisoning. Let me just warn you that one is really really bad and the other is dog gone good.

1. Massive Dog Poisoning in Moscow, Russia. This news was posted last September 21, 2012. So I'm a little late in informing you guys. According to the news, 40 to 70 cases of dog poisoning has been noted by the police that same week. The Russian police opened a criminal investigation because of it. But it wouldn't be a surprise if nobody got convicted. Out of the 9 cases in 2011 (yes, ONLY 9), only one got a convicted. 

What makes this news more alarming are this so called dog killers who actually have dog hunting forums. (YES, DOG HUNTING FORUMS!). In these forums, they post pictures of their dog kills, how they kill the dogs, what they use to kill them and where to buy the stuff they use to kill the dogs. A well-known dog hunting forum's owner reasons out that they are simply a "keeper of peace".

2. Ethan the Jack Russel Terrier Found Poisoned and Buried Survives. Some dogs are just born lucky. Take Ethan, for instance. He was buried after being poisoned. This lucky dog was dug out by a man who saw the ground "wiggle" because he was seizing (one of the poison's effect).  He was near lifeless when the man dug him out. Firefighters came to his rescue and brought him to the veterinarian who nursed him back to life.

Dog News Friday: Amazing Mother Dogs

So I've decided to add a new segment into the blog regarding some amazing dog stories I've read this past week.

This particular post will pertain to some wonderful mother dogs who are simply awe-inspiring.

1. Dog Mom Saves Her Pups from Burning Building. I recently read about a dog who saved her puppies from a burning building. She carried them one by one from the affected area they were in unto the fire truck. Unfortunately, one of her puppies, named Amparo, who suffered severe burns wasn't able to make it.

2. Mother Dog Saves Pup Struggling in the Pool. It's a short ABC news video where the pup is struggling to get out of the water and the mother tries to push him/her up. When that didn't work, the Golden Retriever mom gets out of the pool and pulls the puppy out of the water.

3. Stray Mother Dog Takes Care of a Human Baby Like Her Own Puppy. Now this one in particular was very heartwarming. The story has been published a long time ago (2005 to be exact). An abandoned baby, inside a plastic bag, was crying in the forest of Nairobi, Kenya. Nobody heard this baby except for a mother dog who decided to bring the baby into her litter and take care of the little one to the best of her capacity. That baby was found nestled with the mother dog's puppies under her watchful guard.

Frustrating Friday: I am Lennox

I've been tracking the Lennox case for days now. Truth be told, I only came across it in the news I was browsing.

Rumpy, DogsNPawz and Bringing Up Bella have posted their thoughts about Lennox's execution. All I can say and will say over and over again about the Breed-Specific Legislation is that it should be named the Bul*Sh*t Law because that's what it is.

One of the things I hate about authorities claiming that they are only concerned of the public's safety is that they're mostly full of crap. The authorities in the Belfast City Council said this, so did the authorities who've confiscated thousands of dogs from Jiangmen- some of which were brutally executed in public streets through stick beating.

For example...

Our aim is not to kill all the dogs in the city's urban areas, but we hope to create a better environment for the city by banning the keeping of dogs. 

Rabies outbreak may lead to cull of 30,000 dogs in Chinese city

Whilst there is an exemption scheme to which dogs of this type (pit-bull terrier type) may be admitted as an alternative to destruction, there were no such measures that could be applied in this case that would address the concerns relating to public safety.  

The Council regrets that the court action was necessary but would emphasise that the safety of the public remains its key priority. Source

Frustrating Friday: Family Dog Killed by a Police Officer by MISTAKE!

I would like to thank everybody who  liked our Wordy Wednesday post. It was supposed to be Wordless but the captions felt essential.

Now, for a more pressing agenda, I would like to tell you a very frustrating story about a dog named Lillie who was shot by a Forth Worth, Texas police officer who's still currently unnamed (probably because he'd be crucified by pet owners for making the biggest, stupidest mistake ever).

First of all, this guy responds to the wrong house address. He then shoots the family dog who he claims he thought was a pit bull and was charging at him!

This is Lillie, the so called pit bull look-alike!

And this is what the department had to say about it.

Here's what Officer Daniel Segura with the Fort Worth Police Department had to say about the shooting:

"The officer responded as an assist unit in the investigation of a copper theft offense that occurred in the 4900 Block on Norma st. The assist officer started looking for suspects in the surrounded area from the offense location; he stopped at 4717 Norma where he made contact with an adult male, the officer waited by the driveway when suddenly two dogs started barking at the officer and in an aggressive manner charged towards his direction. The officer ran towards a pillar and asked the male repeatedly to call back the dogs. The officer jumped on top of the pillar and continued pleading the male to call the dogs back. As the dogs were getting closer to attack/bite the officer, the officer fired his duty weapon striking the dog closest to him.

 No arrests were made in reference to the copper theft call."

The Fort Worth Police Department hasn't apologized for their mistake yet and that annoys me. They could have at least promised that this trigger-happy incident would never happen again.
