My Dog's One True Love...

IS NOT ME!

You know how owners pour time and effort on raising their dogs right. Well, I'll be damned if I say I wasn't proud of my accomplishments in taking good care of Chooey.

Like a mother hopes their children will love them for who they are when they grow old, I was hoping Chooey would do so too. But then again...

Ducky comes into her life... and I am but a person of the past.

Or perhaps I am just sensationalizing Chooey's ducky desires. Nonetheless, I do pray this is just a phase... an infatuation... puppy love... canine craziness...

10 Reasons Why My Dogs Don't Use the Computer

Have you ever wondered why it's mostly the mom, the dad or the assistant who does all the blogging? I doubt it's because humans are the only ones capable of punching the keys in the keyboard correctly.

You POST. I'll POSE!
According to a number of dog books there are multiple reasons why dogs prefer posing for the camera and showing us what to blog rather than blog themselves. This here is a mix of our opinions and theirs.

1. They can't stick their heads out of Windows 7.

2. The treats in Youtube videos taste like glass or plastic.

3. Just like Mac OS' Lion and Leopard, they think Twitter is exclusive for cats.

4. They know book"MARK"ing will get them in deep trouble.

5. Carpaw Tunnel Syndrome.

6. Tail wags and nubbin wiggles don't have emoticons or smileys on most instant messaging applications.

7. Why paw a mouse when you can put it in your mouth and chew it to pieces?

8. Facebook's age limit only allows dogs who are a bagillion years old.

9. FETCH command is not available in all platforms.

10. It would take forever to type in with those paws.

Hope you enjoyed this post. Happy Tuesday!

10 Noisy Dog Breeds (featuring Chooey & Peanuts)

So we've missed Mischief Monday, eh? Hear our vocal protest. Be my guest... PLAY THE CLIP.

Below is an interesting list of the top 10 Noisiest Dog Breeds... and guess what, terriers (*cough* PEANUTS) are in it.

In no specific order, the 10 noisiest dog breeds are...

1. Terriers

Peanuts: What do you mean I'm noisy?!? It's Chooey's fault!
Chooey: (looking innocently)
Peanuts: Stop pretending. You know you're guilty, too.
Chooey: (looking innocently)
Peanuts: That's not fair! Haopee, make her confess.
Chooey: (still...looking innocently)

2. Collie - Bragging rights for being too smart?

3. Doberman Pinscher - That's understandable. They were meant to alarm us when an intruder comes. We should give them credit for independently practicing their vocal chords.

4. Finnish Spitz - I haven't seen this breed yet.

5. German Shepherd Dog - Should I say more? They're supposed to intimidate like number 3.

6. Norwegian Elkhound - Ummmm....

7. Toy and Miniature Poodle - Looking pretty isn't enough. They have to talk about it, too.

8. Beagle - "This looks interesting... Oh, there's another interesting thingy there! Wait, there's one more over there! And another one over over there! Bark! Bark! Bark!"

9. Rottweiller - "I bark because I'm tough and everybody's too scared to say 'NO'. Bite me... and I'll bite you back."

10. Shetland Sheepdog - "Humans are too disorganized. I have to herd them everyday but they never pay attention. Verbal cues are the only thing that works. I always need to bark at them to gather around."

The list was taken from Planet Dog's doglopedia. However, the comments and descriptions are ours alone. I hope you've enjoyed this post.

Word...errr Wednesday: The Ocean is Under Our Home

This is where we currently live. During days where we have a high tide, the river overflows towards our home.

Our house is elevated because when it was built, my mom didn't have enough finances to spend on land filling. Truth be told, I often enjoy watching the sea water around our tiny home. Good thing it only comes  twice or thrice a month.

Happy Word...ummm Wednesday!

10 Interesting Dog Superstitions

First of all, I'd like to thank everybody for concerning themselves with my well-being. I'm still coughing badly but I'm now able to sleep better.

When I first made this blog, making posts about my dogs alone weren't an option I had considered. However this past months, I've been doing just that. So now, I'd like to share some compiled information I've picked up while watching TV, reading books and browsing the web for anything dog related.

Some of these superstitions are still being told by elders in my country.

1. If a dog is growling for no obvious reason, it means he is growling at a spirit.

2. A dog eating grass is an indication that it will rain soon.

3. A sleepy dog scratching himself indicates a change in weather.

4. Like how a black cat signifies bad luck, seeing three white dogs together at the same time will bring good luck.

5. A Greyhound having a white spot on its forehead will bring wealth.

6. Meeting a Dalmatian is good luck. (This one is probably true. Meeting ANY dog IS good luck!)

7. If a dog licks a newborn baby, that baby will be a fast healer.

8. If a strange dog is walking inside your house, expect a new friendship on the way.

9. If a dog is howling, supernatural beings are passing through your house. (This drives my mom crazy because of her ancestral beliefs. Whenever she hears BD howling, she'll either panic or get mad at him.)

10. Before starting on a job hunt, scratching your dog will get you a job.

I hope you've enjoyed reading this post.

Why do they breed?

A couple of days ago, me and my sister were talking about getting another dog to be added in their pack. And coincidentally, I was also searching through this famous buy-and-sell website for nothing in particular. So since we were in the topic, I searched for available dogs being sold as online dog ads are conveniently found in this site. To cut to the chase, here are some ads I've read.

Most of them are in my country's language. I will be posting the translated version already.

"For Sale Shih-Tzu
Never been mated 100% Virgin
Perfect for Breeding"

"Puppy for Sharing Shih-Tzu Stud
Male
2 Balls
In Heat, So He Needs A Bitch!"

"JRT Stud Service
I have 2 JRTs (Jack Russel Terriers) you can choose from.
They're awesome at mating since they already know what to do!"

"No Need for Shooter! My dog knows what to do!"

"Never Missed! Proven! Always Successful! Promise,"

"Looking for Crossbreed pups? I can provide you with any kind, just send me a message. Price is negotiable depending on the breed."

"Selling  Shih- Tzu.  The previous owner failed to save the dog's eyes from blindness , but she is healthy. If you need one for breeding purposes, it's definitely okay."

"Big Head, Heavy Bones, Sad Face" - description for a beagle

"Mini Pinscher Chihuahua Mix. Almost in heat. If the female is mated to a purebreed, the possible outcome is a PURE one!"

And the last one,

"Release Date is on DEC ______ , GREAT AS CHRISTMAS PRESENTS!"

It's just sad to know that majority of the reasons that breeders here choose to take care of purebred dogs is for monetary gain. Purebred dogs are like luxury items in the Philippines which is why they are highly sought after. It's a rare case for a person to pick up strays.  And one of the reasons why dog adoption from pounds isn't popular is because of this (aside from the fact that some cities don't have pounds).

Comments anyone?

Top 7 Smartest Breeds

Have you heard of people claiming that one breed is smarter than the other? According to dog experts, some breeds are innately smarter than others. With smartness gauged through their willingness to obey and follow instructions, one of the most intelligent breeds is the Border collie.

But we already know that. Lassie was, after all, a movie star. In fact, a whole generation of Lassies have starred in movies pertaining to, well... Lassie herself.

According to some dog experts ( asked by Psychologist Stanley Coren), the top 7 smartest dogs are...
1. Border Collie
2. Poodle
3. German Shepherd
4. Golden Retriever
5. Doberman
6. Shetland Sheepdog
7. Labrador Retriever.

Don't feel bad if your pooch's breed wasn't mentioned. This was just a generalization. They didn't exactly give every single breed an exam to answer. Worry not! If you feel Fido or Fifi is smart, then who's to argue? What's great about dogs are they're awesome at adapting to their human companions - and this is a stated fact.

Lastly, did you know that the "dumbest" breed or shall we say the less intelligent one of them all is the Afghan hound? Another surprising fact is that dogs with the highest "communication intelligence" as Dr. Bruce Fogel coined are the ones bred after the 1800s while the dumbest ones are the "genetically oldest" breeds.

Edit: Want to read more about Dog Intelligence? Here's a link from Yuki and Rocket's Blog explaining more about it. CLICK ME.

Next, I'd just like to add that I believe our dogs may not necessarily have the most intelligent breeds, but I can attest to saying that what we they lack in trainability they make up with wonderful personalities and independence.

Dog Language: Dog to Dog Gestures

Have you ever seen two dogs confront each other and wonder what they're communicating about? How many of us have wished that we could talk to animals like Eliza Thornberry or have a talking dog like the ones we see on TV. Well, I've had it with second guessing. After doing a little research and some observations with my own dogs, here's some things I've taken note of.

"Nothing beats the heat like a snow dog on the beach."

Mouth Open, Tongue Hanging Limply, Soft Droopy Eyes, Ears Forward - "Chillax!". Relaxed Doggy

Low Moaning or Barking with a Low Whining Growl- "Anybody there?". Anxious Doggy

Loud, Repeated Barking, sometimes with a Growl- "Get away from me or I'll bite You". Aggravated Doggy

Screaming Whine- "Ouuuuuuuuccchhh," or "Okay okay! You win!". Beaten doggy by other doggy

Belly Showing after Rolling Over- "Don't hurt me, Big Daddy!" or "Rubby Me Tummy! (if Fido does it in front of his master)". Deference Postured Doggy

Looming Over Another Dog with a Wagging Tail- "Do as I say!". Dominant Doggy

"You might be tall and pretty but I'm cuter. Kiss my paw, or I'll pee on you!"

Long Howling- "Dooooooooon't leeeeeeave meeee heeereee alooooone.". Lonely Doggy due to Separation Anxiety

Head Low, With Booty Up In the Air, High Pitched Bark or Soft-Playful Growl- "Bring it on. I've got ball.". Doggy in Play Mode

Head Down or Turned to Side- "You are the boss of me.". Submissive Doggy

Yawning- "Boooored" or "Stressssed". Stressed Doggy

Eyes Watching, Teeth Bared, Ears Flattened, Tail Horizontal Wagging Slowly- "Come here and I might give you the bite treatment.". Intimidating Doggy

Head or Paws Resting on Paw Pal- "I'm your boss.". Dominant Doggy

Skipping or Hopping- "Hellooo.".Excited Doggy

A mix between excitement and fear. A cupcake is a marvelous specimen to behold, but a puppy... with eyes as expressive as this one is priceless.

Wide Open Eyes or Staring Sideways, Jaws Tensed or Tongue Licking Lips, Panting, Tail Tucked Under- "I'ma scared.". Fearful Doggy

Fur Raising at the Back or Neck- "Bring it on. I gonna beat you to a pulp!". Threatening Doggy

Low not so Threatening Growl- "You're in my territory. Now, I'm giving you a chance to get out.". Territorial Doggy

Low Whine or Short Barks- "Alert! Alert!" or "Danger! Danger". Wary Doggy

Head Raised, Tail Raised Up Straight, Body not Moving- " Ooooohhhh, What does this button do?" or "What was that!?!". Interested Doggy

Now that you've read the basics, all we need to figure out next is how to read their minds... or at least figure out which of them stole the juicy steak on top of the table awhile ago.
