Guest Post: Haustiere- German Word for Pet Food

This guest post was sent by Ricky Bourne.

Nutrition is important for all organisms, from katzen und hunden to human beings. Haustiere is important.

Apparently the German word for pet food, or for caring for your pet with nutrition or in other wise feeding a pet, is “haustiere”. So there you go. If you've been looking to broaden your conversational German with some extra words, that’s one for the bank.

People with ein hund or ein katze – oder even ein hamster (whatever that might be in German) may find themselves falling into the all too common trap of buying or using the wrong haustiere. Imagine those big puppy dog eyes looking up at you, saying, Ja, ich really mochte the wienerschnitzel you are eating… It’s hard to resist the charms and demands of the average domesticated animal. But if we don’t, we can inadvertently be causing some serious omissions in their diet.

Die katzen, for example, need to eat quite a lot of different minerals and irons in order to maintain the health of their teeth, bones and organs. Without the proper combination, they become kranken and have to go to the vet. So the haustiere you choose for dieser katzen can be very important – as indeed can the haustiere you choose for diener hunde.

Also, there are different kinds of haustiere for different stages in the life of dieser katze or diener hunden. So the food you give them has to change over the years. Die junge katze, for example, requires a nutritive boost to make its hair grow properly – plus a range of vitamins necessary to ensure the proper development of a nervous system honed to perfection, able to help its owner twist in mid-air and always hit the ground feet first.

Scientific nutrition for katzen und hunden is also used when the animal in question is sick in some way. Prescribed science diet formulas are able to help pets regain their full health in the event of certain illnesses. Extra protein, fur example, allows the animal to rebuild muscle it may have lost during ein period of rest. Und specific combinations of minerals and vitamins can target a tottering immune system, helping to build it back up properly during the period of convalescence.

Scientific haustiere can also be used to combat common allergies. Many domestic animals are either born with or develop allergies according to where they live and what they have previously been fed on. Pets suffering from chronic allergies may be helped by scientifically put together dry food, which can stop allergic reactions to the preservatives and setting agents often used in the wet food.

In addition, dry food can actually help to improve the breath of a pet prone to halitosis. The dry food is less likely to stick inside the mouth, on the tongue or teeth, after the pet has finished eating. Since it is the bacteria on unfinished food particles that often causes the smelly breath of a pet, using dry haustiere is an excellent way to make those evening cuddles with Smoochy a little less pungent.

Nutrition is important for all organisms, from katzen und hunden to human beings. Haustiere is important.

Haopee Notes:

I have added the following German words into my vocabulary bank...

Katzen = Cat

Hund = Dog (or Hound from the word Dachshund)
Haustiere = Pets ( according to Google Translate. However, in this article, it means pet food.)

And that wraps it up for today.

  4. I think the best food for pets would be one that agrees with them and allows them to thrive and not just to keep them alive. :)

  5. The best food is the best you can afford. I cringe when i see people buying cheap crap, it goes straight through the dogs without them getting any benefit from it.
