Isn't it a wonderful day? Today is Friday and that closes the chapter of another week of our dog life with Peanuts, Chooey, Ginger, BD and Coal.
I decided to change our badge so as to include the entire pack. Presenting our new badge....
Next, Ticks... What's the deal with them?
I certainly hate tick infestation and one of the most tedious part of eliminating the ones sticking to our dogs is how to kill or remove them without having to squish them with our fingers.
Reading Joey Green's Amazing Pet Cures, here are some interesting tips/products I'm going to share.
1. Glue - Apply it to the embedded tick then steadily pull it out from the skin (preferably with a pair of tweezers gripping its head).
2. Nail Polish - A great way to suffocate those annoying ticks. You can even color code them. Red for the fat ones, Blue for the not so bloated and Green for ticks that are on top of one another.
3. Petroleum Jelly - Use a pair of gloves and cover the tick with petroleum jelly. It'll suffocate causing it to let go.
4. White Out or Liquid Paper - Same concept... suffocation! Die, Ticks. Die! Paint off the entire tick's body so that it couldn't breathe.
5. Baby Oil or Vegetable Oil - Use this to loosen the tick from the dog's body. Then pull it slowly with a tweezers. We wouldn't want our dogs to have bloody bite marks on them, do we?
Don't forget to use an antiseptic such as Betadine or Neosporin after removing the ticks from dogs just to add a layer of protection against infection and diseases coming from ticks.
Why not use my fingers instead?
Do you want to risk infection from tick blood? Make sure to grasp the ticks head by the skin line or near the tick head so as not to leave it embedded in the dog's skin.
Ticks crikey, I am off to hide. Have a happy Friday to you and yours. Nice to see the gang.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Love your new badge with all the gang :-) Hope you can get rid of those ticks soon - my peeps use a 'spot-on' liquid called Frontline on us every few months which protects us from fleas and ticks but you've certainly got some other interesting ways of getting rid of them there! ReplyDeleteI like your new badge, cool! We have a new Dr. Zira memorial badge up on our blog. We use Frontline here too btu we have still had some ticks, Norbert has also had lyme so we know how scary ticks are

Thankfully, being an indoor dog and only going out to play in our fenced up garden, Whisky rarely, if ever, gets ticks. But if she does, I would use my fingers to scrape it off her (without killing the tick) then dumping it in a jar of cooking oil. Clean and easy.
ReplyDeleteOOoooo that sounds so scary...... ticks are very very rare where I live, thank goodness!!!

Yuck, ticks are so nasty! We always just use tweezers and watch the dogs closely for signs of Lyme Disease
ReplyDeleteNola's MOm
agh! just thinking of ticks gives me the creepy crawlies!! Yuki's never had a tick, Rocket got two last summer, but i just used tweezers to take them out.
ReplyDeleteNice badge! We love it! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips about those nasty ticks. There's lots of Lyme disease around here, so these are good things to know.
Hugs to you all.
Great new badge! And good tips too - white out huh? We're so glad to hear you talk about betadine & etc too. Did you know ticks can be deadly to kitties? Bobcat Fever - up until this year - was 100% fatal. Mommy wrote about it back in...uhh...April, we think.
ReplyDeleteLove your new badge! Being someone who is suffering the long term effects of Lyme disease, I agree, be very careful when removing them!! xx
ReplyDeleteWe love your new badge too! It is awesome! Great tips about removing ticks. We don't get many here but it is still good to know what to do if we do get a tick! Better safe than sorry!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
