First of all, I'd like to thank everybody for concerning themselves with my well-being. I'm still coughing badly but I'm now able to sleep better.
When I first made this blog, making posts about my dogs alone weren't an option I had considered. However this past months, I've been doing just that. So now, I'd like to share some compiled information I've picked up while watching TV, reading books and browsing the web for anything dog related.
Some of these superstitions are still being told by elders in my country.
1. If a dog is growling for no obvious reason, it means he is growling at a spirit.
2. A dog eating grass is an indication that it will rain soon.
3. A sleepy dog scratching himself indicates a change in weather.
4. Like how a black cat signifies bad luck, seeing three white dogs together at the same time will bring good luck.
5. A Greyhound having a white spot on its forehead will bring wealth.
6. Meeting a Dalmatian is good luck. (This one is probably true. Meeting ANY dog IS good luck!)
7. If a dog licks a newborn baby, that baby will be a fast healer.
8. If a strange dog is walking inside your house, expect a new friendship on the way.
9. If a dog is howling, supernatural beings are passing through your house. (This drives my mom crazy because of her ancestral beliefs. Whenever she hears BD howling, she'll either panic or get mad at him.)
10. Before starting on a job hunt, scratching your dog will get you a job.
I hope you've enjoyed reading this post.
Those are really interesting superstitions, I had never heard them before.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling a little better.
Right, I'm off to find three white dogs sitting together and adopt a greyhound with a white spot on his forehead!

Now that's interesting! First I have to find three white dogs....heehee! I also like the strange dog walking in your house one, I guess the strange dog is your new friend! LOL!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting - I didn't know many of those - my Mum always says there must be a spirit nearby if we start howling/barking for no reason but I think she may be joking :-) woofs and licks from Magic xx
ReplyDeleteHahaha. I wonder if the good luck will still come if it's a white dog, a white rabbit and a white cat? :)
ReplyDeleteLOL. Perhaps if you convince the rabbit and the cat that their dogs. ^^
DeleteWow, very interesting. I had never heard of most of these. The one about spirits has always annoyed me.
ReplyDeleteWell I am glad you are feeling better, Haopee :) Believe it or not, some superstitions are taken very seriously in the west too ...... though not by me or my black and white cat lol
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I love #4

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. The WDA especially likes #4 because it seems to say we are ALWAYS lucky! Glad you are able to sleep better; still sending Lucky White Dog healing energies that you will complete rid yourself of the cough.
ReplyDeletethe first one, in my opinion is true. usually i will see something out of the corner of my eye and if one of the dogs starts barking in the direction i saw the blur, it confirms im not going crazy. but then again, i've seen and experienced spirit stuff, most people would not believe unless you believe in that sort of stuff. ;)
ReplyDeleteI understand what you mean. I am the type who prefer to not believe in it so that I won't get to see one. Yes, I am a super scaredy cat.
DeleteWow, your culture also thinks that black cats are bad luck? Jen has often said that we are aware of spirits because DeDe and I often "see" things that Jen can't.
ReplyDeleteHmmm - I hadn't heard of these! I did hear Cosmo next door howling yesterday, but I think it was more likely at the emergency siren I could also hear :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you're getting better,
Have a fun day,
Your pal Snoopy :)
Thank you for visiting us, hoapee. we will be following you blog from now on. you all look like a fun group!

we hope you feel all the way better, soon. we had a friend with that illness and it went on and on...
Wow what an amazing list, we wonder if any of these are true.
ReplyDeleteGlad your on the mend :)
Slobbers
Those are really interesting superstitions! We don't know about rain, but usually a dog eating grass is an indication that we're going to have to clean up some barf. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI really like #10. :)
I had a friend once who claimed that her dog growled at spirits. She said a boy was killed in the house she bought and that he must have been haunting the place. Spooky. Not that I believe it though :)
