Dog Treatment in some Philippine Pounds

I've already talked about this before- how I feel dogs are treated cruelly here. I just came across this blog post regarding how one good soul have protested to the treatment of dogs in a city nearby. Although it's been a year since the article was posted, the images still sears in my brain. If you're interested to see her page, click on the link. Jes Pi, whoever she is, is now one person I will greatly admire for her effort in making people aware of the pound's condition.

From Tsyka's Article Saving Man's Best Friend
I've just realized that aside from the term "Askals" (meaning asong kalye or street dog), dogs of such nature are also called "Aspins" ( meaning asong pinoy or Filipino dogs). No matter how much I try to explain how dog treatment here in the Philippines is far different from how most people from other countries do, it hurts me to see that others merely don't care as much.

I won't be a hypocrite though, I know the type of living here is very poor, but starving the dogs in a pound and killing them 3 days later through smoke emission is somewhat inhumane, don't you think?

Here's an update on the "tambucho-gassing" issue dated last April 16,2011. Although with this bad news I bring, I am thankful to read that there are concerned citizens willing to lend a typing hand and a reading eye to help in saving those goggies.

NOTE: I've asked around and I partially understand why vets still agree on gassing as the best way of putting down dogs. Carbon monoxide isn't like cyanide or potassium overdose, those poisoned by such gas go into a sleeping state. So, the reason why smoke emission is their choice is because of it being the lesser evil.

But still, starvation is a painful form of torture. Even homeless people are given a chance to scavenge for food. Imprisoning them and waiting for them to starve themselves to death is just plain wrong. Unlike people, dogs don't eat their own kind.

At the moment,  as much as I want to say that every dog deserves a human, I'm appalled to face reality and help in a way I am familiar with... AWARENESS.

PLEASE, DO NOT BE IRRESPONSIBLE OWNERS. A DOG IS NOT A TOY. THEY GROW AND ARE A HANDFUL AT TIMES. IF YOU CAN'T NEUTER OR SPAY YOUR PET, KEEP THEM AT HOME. THE BOOMING POPULATION OF UNWANTED PUPPIES WILL NOT STOP UNLESS US OWNERS WILL TAKE ACTION.

  2. No, MMM. I'd like to thank you more for helping homeless animals. I'm glad there are compassionate people in this world like you.
